Service industries are the major driving force of the world economy, with one-quarter of cross-border trade already in services. Taiwan has developed into a service-oriented economy, with the services sector contributing more than 70% of the GDP in 2007 and employing 58.49% of the working population in 2006, more than 36.02% for industry sector. In external trade, Taiwan's exports of services now exceed than of its domestic manufactures.
The Taiwan Coalition of Service Industries was founded in 2007 by the General Chamber of Commence of ROC. It is the Chamber's service policy think tank. With representatives from more than 30 service sectors, the TWCSI is the major private sector voice for Taiwan's service industries.
To promote the continuing development and competitiveness of Taiwan's service industries. To achieve this, the TWCSI seeks to:
To promote the development of a "service friendly environment" in Taiwan.
To provide a focal point for liaison with Government.
To establish and maintain cooperation between members of Taiwan's service industries for the purpose of achieving common goals.
To represent the interests of service industries in Taiwan and to formulate policies and make submissions on behalf of members of the Taiwan Coalition of Service Industries.
To promote fair, effective and comprehensive international and multilateral rules for trade in services.
To establish and develop links with counterpart organizations elsewhere.
Besides the Executive Committee, there are three committees under TWCSI:
Logistic Service Committee
Medical Tourism/ Travel Committee
Energy Committee
To undertake a wide range of activities and events to promote the services sector locally and internationally.
To conduct research projects and studies on the development of the Taiwan economy and the service sectors.
